Reserve Apparatus
Like any large department who answers thousands of calls of public service a year apparatus can receive significant wear and tear. While these repairs are being made fire companies must stay in service to protect their first due response areas and surrounding areas. While repairs are being made, companies will operate reserve apparatus, which are older trucks that have once served and have been replaced by newer apparatus. If this were not the case, and companies were to be placed out of service it would endanger citizens and firefighters because of increased response times.
